EasySend’s selfie-based identity verification

We would like to present a new EasySend feature – a selfie-based identity verification carried out by the customers themselves. How does it work?

EasySend’s selfie-based identity verification

From now on, EasySend’s customers will be able to use a self-service system to verify their identity. This feature has seen successfully employed by banks, and it allows for remote bank account opening. All you need to do is to take a picture of your ID and a few shots of your face – and done! Amongst the banks that have introduced this method of personal account opening are Pekao, BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole and, as of recently, Millenium, ING Bank and Citi Handlowy.
As one of the leading players in the fintech market, EasySend has extended this functionality to its customers as well, and its security standards match up to those implemented by banks.

Why does EasySend require verification?

Customer account verification is needed in order to maintain the security of transactions. It is also a legal requirement with which EasySend, as a financial service provider under the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), has to comply ((The Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Amendment) Regulations 2019)).

When is account verification necessary? You can find this information in the table:

How does EasySend’s selfie-based identity verification work?

After you provide basic details, the system will ask you for pictures of both sides of your ID card (or another identification document; the list of acceptable documents for particular countries can be found HERE), and for a few shots of your face – the AI will let you know if you need to move the camera closer or turn your head a little. This means that the verification process will be slightly different each time and cannot be compromised. The self-service identity verification system is based on facial biometrics and their comparison with the picture on the ID. The process is very intuitive, you just need to follow the instructions.

The customer uploads a picture of the document to the system and then for a few seconds scans their face using a phone or a webcam. Thanks to biometric verification, the automatic system ascertains the identity of the person “on the other side”. The entire verification process takes seconds to complete. In other words, there is no longer a need to fill out dozens of sections in an online form.

Is selfie-based verification safe?

Yes, it is definitely the safest way to verify identity. In terms of its security and data encryption, the system we are using has gained the trust and met the strict requirements of leading financial institutions, payment system providers, foreign stock exchanges and banks all over the world. All the data is sent and stored using strong 256-bit AES encryption.

Frequently asked questions regarding selfie-based verification:

1. What does EasySend’s selfie-based identity verification mean?

It means your identity is verified based on a picture of your ID and how the picture on your ID compares to your selfie – and the comparison process is carried out with the use of biometric techniques. Identity verification carried out by the customers themselves replaces the entire procedure of customers sending document scans and awaiting manual verification by EasySend specialists.

2. How is my data provided during selfie-based verification processed?

Pictures of documents are stored in the Jumio Corp system. If the verification is unsuccessful, they are immediately deleted from the server. All the processes, i.e., the biometric verification, document data scanning, as well as the comparison of those two data sources, are carried out automatically by an AI system. If there are any doubts, the documents may also be verified manually by our AML Compliance specialists and Customer Service employees who have been trained in security.

3. Can I verify my account at any given moment?

No, customers undergo verification only when it is necessary for carrying out a transaction. In the “Account verification” tab in the EasySend Customer Panel, there are statuses that tell you which data range requires verification.
The following verification statuses may appear:

  •  required,
  • not required,
  • outdated,
  • verification in progress,
  • verified,
  • unsuccessful.

4. Can I finish my transfer order first, and provide data needed for verification later?

Yes. There are no changes in this regard. The verification process can be carried out later, and the transfer will be executed once the verification is done.
